Cool Gifts for Foodies

These days, you’d be hard pressed to find someone who doesn't consider themselves a foodie. Whether they’re into restaurants, cooking or cocktails, they can be hard to impress when it comes to their favorite things to consume. Here are some ideas for gifts from foodies that will ensure you keep getting invited to their annoyingly fabulous dinner parties:

Foodie Gifts

Cookbooks: An oldie but a goodie, a cookbook is a great gift for the foodies in your life. Just be sure to steer clear of Betty Crocker and the Back of the Box Gourmet. Instead, opt for celebrity chef-penned books (Giada, Bobby Flay, Rick Bayless), books inspired by TV shows (Top Chef, Mad Men), and things that are trending in the food world now (paleo, juicing, craft cocktails).

Magazines or guidebooks: For those more into restaurants than recipes, a magazine subscription or guidebook may be the way to go. Popular mags include Food & Wine, Saveur and Bon Appetit, and guidebooks like Michelin or Zagat for their city will make a great centerpiece for their coffee table.

Kitchen gadgets: If you’re into cooking, you can never have enough gadgets. Chances are, your budding-chef friend already has all the basics, so you may need to get creative. If they’re into cheese, opt for a Brie baker. For bakers, kitschy cookie cutters or a shaped cake pan will do the trick. For your favorite male cook, a nice steak knife or grilling accessory is the way to go.

Gift certificates: Eating out can get expensive, especially if you only go to the newest, coolest places. Help your foodie friend out with a gift certificate to their favorite restaurant. If you don’t know what places they prefer, get a gift card that can be used at a variety of hot spots from your city’s big restaurant group.

Food! The most obvious choice for a foodie gift is, well, food! Of course, it helps if you’re into food too so you know what to get. Some ingredients that any self-respecting home cook should have include nice spices (no McCormick, please), extra virgin olive oil, kosher or sea salt, various varieties of vinegar, and white truffle oil. For wine and beer lovers, a bottle of wine from their favorite region or a six-pack of hard-to-find craft beer will be much appreciated.
