Hollywood’s biggest night out is a great reason to have a big night –in! At your place that is. Let’s face it, the Oscars are far too long to enjoy anywhere but a home where there’s comfortable seating so why not enjoy the night by hosting a shin-dig with you best friends? The date in question. Sunday, February 24th so send your invites now. Of course, it wouldn’t be a theme party with just chips ‘n dip so here are some fun ways to play up the night.
Let’s Play Dress up! You’ve got two choices here—classy or wacky. Choice one means you dress up and try to outshine the stars. Have your guests wear gowns and hell, why not have them walk the red the carpet in you place as well? Buy one on the cheap through Party City which also has tons more of Oscar-themed party favors.
The second way to play dress up? Dress up as your favorite Silver Screen character of the year. Think Hunger Games, think Lincoln, think Anna Karenina—you get the drill! You can make it a guessing game, a challenge to play your character all night long or just a good ol’ fashion, best-dressed contest. Need an award for the winner? How about this cheesy statuette?
Going for the Gold. Pay homage to the hefty statuette that all the stars so covet, go for the gold in your party décor and theme. Gold balloons, gold plates, gold confetti on the tables and even gold drinks! Try this cocktail recipe to have your gold and drink it too!
- Cinnamon Caramel Apple Cocktail
- 1 Shot of Goldschlager Cinnamon Schnaps
- ½ glass of chilled apple cider
- 1 Shot of Caramel Liqueur
Join the Acadmey. No Oscar party would be complete without voting for your own favorites. Give your guests their own ballot cards so they can be the judge. Printable ballot cards with all the 2013 nominees can be found here.
Trivial Pursuit. During the boring parts (admit it, there are plenty of ‘em) and during the commercials (they’re hardly Super Bowl worthy) keep your guests on their feet with trivia. Get inspired by these 2013 Oscar fun facts to make up your trivia questions.
Eat Your Way Through the Awards. If you’re a foodie, why not cater a menu inspired by the 2013 nominees? Get menus based on the year’s best films here. Not a foodie? Fear not. Nothing wrong with popcorn (hey it’s the movie biz eh?), a cheese plate with baguette, some olives and of course—good wine! Need a drinking game to keep things interesting? How about every time someone thanks his/her mom, uses a pre-penned thank you list or gets cued to cut the thank you speech with orchestra music.
Voilà! A party worthy of an award itself. Don’t forget to tweet us @AptsCom how your party is going!
