If you’re looking to save a little money and make your home more eco-friendly at the same time, try testing out some natural cleaning options made with ingredients you may already have in your apartment. Instead of buying over-the-counter cleaning products, these natural options are a great way to keep your home clean and green.

Lemons

  • Vinegar. Vinegar is a good, natural solution for cleaning or disinfecting surfaces in your bathroom, as well as cleaning hard-wood floors. Mixing vinegar and baking soda into a paste is an effective way of removing soap scum while disinfecting your bathroom tile. Vinegar can also remove mineral deposits in your shower head by soaking the shower head in vinegar overnight. In the morning, simply rinse the shower head with water and say goodbye to mineral build-up.
  • Baking Soda. Baking Soda is an awesome product for eliminating odors in your home. Place an opened box of baking soda in your refrigerator or next to your trash bin to get rid of unpleasant odors in your kitchen. Another great use is to sprinkle baking soda on your upholstered furniture prior to vacuuming to eliminate odors.
  • Salt. Salt has the perfect texture for scouring your glassware or pots and pans, and it’s something everyone has in their home! Scrubbing your glassware with a little salt is a great way to remove stains without scratching the surface. Salt is also helpful for soaking up grease in your pots and pans. Add salt to dirty pots and pans before washing normally.
  • Lemons. Clean your kitchen surfaces and remove rust or dirt stains while taking advantage of the natural citrus scent. Use lemon juice to remove food stains from cutting boards or on plastic containers by applying lemon juice to the stain and letting it dry, before washing as usual. Lemons are also effective for removing odors from your hands after chopping garlic or handling fish.

Many surfaces react differently to cleaning products. We suggest you test a small surface space with the natural cleaning product to make sure you don’t have any issues.

Enjoy these natural solutions for cleaning your home!
