How Long is a Guest a Guest?

Houseguest

Most of us have house guests from time to time—an old friend who comes for the weekend, or a younger sibling who camps out on the couch for a week while he looks for a job or any of many other possibilities. Sometimes those visits are great and other times we begin to wonder when they’re going to end. But for renters, there’s an added consideration that many forget about: Most leases include restrictions on how long guests can stay before you’re required to notify management. Your favorite cousin might consider herself just visiting if she stays for a few weeks, but chances are your lease and your management company won’t agree with that characterization.  If you have a guest staying for more than a few days, make sure to check your lease or check with your management company to find out what’s required.
