I Smell Gas – What Should I Do?
With most maintenance issues, contacting management is the first step. However, smelling gas can be a sign of a dangerous leak, and requires professional attention as quickly as possible. After making a quick check of your pilot lights to make sure there’s not a simple explanation, contact the gas company immediately. The gas company has someone on hand to investigate gas leaks 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. What happens next will depend on the nature of the problem. If there’s a repair required, the gas company investigator will give you or your landlord a notice describing the necessary repairs. If you receive this notice, take it to management immediately.
