There May be Pests in My Building – What Should I Do?
The key to keeping your building pest-free is quick action. While keeping your apartment clean, garbage out of common areas and food put away goes a long way, there is always the possibility of a mouse finding its way inside in the winter or a new neighbor carrying in a bug from a prior rental—and those pests can spread rapidly if they’re not managed aggressively. Too often, renters are hesitant to take a pest problem to management for fear that they’ll be blamed, but that’s always a mistake. A problem that could be easily managed can spiral into a major headache for everyone concerned if it’s not addressed promptly, so err on the side of contacting management at the first sign of trouble.

We signed a one year lease in Kenosha and since there have been a few issues with the neighborhood (drug deals late at night, cops aroud with their light on for gun shots…etc) BUT the real issue is that we (BOTH upstairs and our apt) have a HUGGGGGE ant problem! Weve told the landlord and have already spent over 50 in bug sprays and ant traps… we have brought up the issue MANY times because I have two small boys and the ants got into their room! all over my sons crib (thank god they wernt home at the time) but we shouldnt have to be spraying chemicals every other day on top of paying for it! We are infested no doubt about it, but today i walked out onto my front pourch and seen two mice fly by and skert behind the couch and vanish, called my landlord and said something needs to be done (wich hes already said he wont do) or i will buy all the stuff nessassary to keep the pests at bay for the next year and send him the RECIPTS along with the ADJUSTED rent check! He then asked if i wanted a 30 day eviction notice. since febuary we have paid in full, on time, and have done all the lawn moeing (something else he wont buy gas for but we HAVE to attend to) snow shoveling/salting and i was sick of the layer of leaves built up in front of our pourch so ive been doing the “landscaping” that was never cleaned up! SOOOO what can i do here??? every day its something else and now we risk getting kicked out and not getting our deposit back more than likely OR just spending my money weekly on dealing with the nasty creapy crawlers around my family!
