What Can I Do About Neighbors and Their Guests Parking in My Spot?
First, make sure that you have a solid handle on the way parking is assigned (or not assigned) in your community. Is that really your spot, or just the one closest to your apartment? If spots aren’t assigned and your neighbors aren’t violating any policy by parking there, consider carefully whether you have a good reason to object. If you still feel that you do, initiate a friendly conversation and find out whether your neighbor is willing to park somewhere else. If the spot is assigned to you or the vehicle that’s in your way isn’t authorized to park in the lot, then you can enforce your rights. However, starting out with a friendly request is still the best way to go. Be sure to make a note about when you spoke and what was said, just in case it’s necessary to take the next step. If a friendly conversation doesn’t correct the situation, don’t go to war! Talk with management to discuss the next steps.
